At Elegant German Shorthairs we believe in doing everything we can to provide the healthiest, happiest, longest lived GSP we can. To that end, we health test all our dogs who have become conformation show champions, before we even consider them for breeding. We test our dogs for cardiac genetic health, genetic eye diseases, and current eye diseases, Hip and Elbow dysplasia, and thyroid. The results of these tests are available to all interested puppy buyers.
We know how challenging it can be to take home a new pup. Housebreaking, channeling energy, and training are required so your new puppy grows into a happy, well trained, respectful and biddable, GSP. We are here to provide as much help as you need. Never more than a phone call away, you are welcome to call us at any time with questions, help finding resources, training questions, and things in general that may be needed regarding your dog.
A word about crate training? Yes! Your pup will love you for it! Crates are not cruel, in fact, they provide your dog a safe haven, a place to get away from all traffic n the home. A place to be secure. To your dog, the crate becomes a place of security. Yes, they may cry a few nights when you first start them on crate training, but very quickly they become accustomed to going in their own little home at night. During the day when you are at work, it is a way to confine them so that they do not become destructive, and so that they do not develop separation anxiety from rambling through what to them, seems like a huge house all alone. After a while, you may not always need to put them in their crate at night, but they need to use their crate once in a while to remain used to it. This is a very valuable training aid. You never know when you may need to use the services of a dog sitter, family member or close friend to keep or watch your pup when you must travel or for an emergency. It helps assure your pup they are safe and secure in what may be a new environment to them.
